i recently got a 4 track its an older one made sometime before i was born. when i first got it it had a little problem and the tape heads(i guess thats what they are called) would retract so you couldn't play/record or take the tape out.. but all i needed to do was spin this little wheel and add some wd-40 to it and it started working again (i guess the grease dried
now my 4-track is doing something weird to the recordings it kinda sounds like if i was messing with the pitch knob the whole time i recorded it or played it. but the pitch knob is dead center.

you have resistance somewhere in a moving object...could be tape bunching up in the tape reel, could be the tape spindles or wheels that the tape runs across

well its kind of weird now.
it seems to be only doing it sometimes.
its a cassette recorder if that makes any difference... but what should i look at to try to repair this? -

try a new tape..and clean dirty wheels inside with a q tip and some rubbing alchohol...
